KLM Middle East flight suspensions · through 24 October 2026

KLM flights to Dubai, Riyadh and Dammam remain suspended through 24 October

KLM says it will not operate flights to Dubai, Riyadh or Dammam up to and including 24 October 2026 because of the security situation in the Middle East and related airspace restrictions. The airline is continuing to adjust its regional network and advises affected passengers to use its rebooking and refund options. A route suspension does not by itself determine whether fixed EU261 compensation is due, so passengers should keep the airline's cancellation reason and assess the individual itinerary.

What happened

KLM's current travel-alert page says the airline has paused all flights to and from Dubai, Riyadh and Dammam through Saturday 24 October 2026. KLM's newsroom statement records the same date and says the network is being adjusted on operational grounds as the Middle East situation develops. KLM also says it is not flying through Iranian or Iraqi airspace and avoids several other Gulf airspace areas. Because schedules can change again, passengers should verify their booking before travelling rather than rely on an older timetable or third-party schedule.

Operational conditions can change quickly. Check the airline and airport for live status before travelling.

Compensation is only one part of your rights

For journeys within EU261 scope, security risks, conflict-zone restrictions and airspace closures can be relevant extraordinary circumstances for fixed compensation if they actually caused the cancellation and the airline meets the applicable legal tests. That does not remove every passenger remedy. When a covered flight is cancelled, reimbursement or rerouting rights can still apply, and care obligations may arise depending on the circumstances. The airline's stated cause, timing of the cancellation and replacement options offered remain important to the assessment.

01

Fixed compensation

Do not assume it is automatically due. The cause, applicable passenger-rights regime and the airline's response all matter.

02

Refund or rerouting

A cancellation can create travel-remedy rights even where an extraordinary circumstance prevents fixed compensation.

03

Care and expenses

Where the applicable rules provide a duty of care, reasonable meals, accommodation or transport can remain separate from compensation.

What to do now

If you are booked with KLM to or from Dubai, Riyadh or Dammam before 25 October, open My Trip and check whether your itinerary has already been rebooked. Keep the original ticket, cancellation or schedule-change message, replacement itinerary, refund or rerouting options and itemised receipts for reasonable expenses if care is not provided directly. Preserve the exact reason KLM gives for the cancellation because a regional security event should not be assumed to be the cause of every separate disruption on a connecting journey.
