What to do now
- File a mishandled baggage report and agree delivery details.
- Buy appropriate necessities and retain itemized receipts.
- Keep the delivery time and request reimbursement in writing.
What can change your rights
DOT says an airline cannot impose an arbitrary daily limit on delayed-bag incidental expenses. A checked-bag fee can be separately refundable for a significantly delayed bag: the DOT thresholds are 12 hours for domestic flights and 15 or 30 hours for international flights depending on flight duration, with reporting requirements and exceptions. This is not a blanket refund for every short delay.
Evidence to keep
- Your booking and boarding passes; keep these in your own records.
- Bag tags, a mishandled baggage report and dated photographs.
- Itemized receipts, airline messages and proof that your written claim was sent.
Common questions
Is the bag fee separate from the expenses?
Yes. Fee refunds and reimbursement of documented incidental expenses are different rights with their own criteria.
Does the airline's $50 daily policy settle my expenses?
DOT does not allow an arbitrary daily cap. Document actual reasonable expenses and ask the airline to apply the applicable rules.

Use AeroDue to organize possible rights and check your case without an account or an email requirement for the diagnostic. You can file directly with the airline. If an appropriate external provider is available, the checker shows that option separately from the assessment.
