Understand the right rules for your itinerary

The United States has DOT refund protections and airline-specific service commitments, but generally no nationwide fixed cash payment just because a flight is late. Canada uses the Air Passenger Protection Regulations (APPR) with separate criteria for rebooking, refunds, assistance and compensation for certain disruptions.

Airports do not determine eligibility on their own. Check the origin, final destination, operating airline, disruption reason and whether you accepted replacement travel. These pages are guides, not live airport incident reports.

US airline service commitments: compare nine carriers

Airport rights and the operating airline's customer-service promises are different questions. Review a DOT-sourced comparison of rebooking, meal, hotel and other commitments for controllable delays and cancellations; a dated source snapshot is not a live promise.
