Avolon places firm order for 110 Airbus aircraft
Aviation finance company Avolon has placed a firm order for 110 Airbus aircraft: 35 A330-900s and 75 A320neo Family aircraft. Airbus announced the agreement on 9 October. The deal brings Avolon's total A330-900 orders to 114 and its A320 Family orders to approximately 650. Avolon says the aircraft will support airline customers' fleet growth and replacement needs.
Avolon is not a passenger airline selling tickets: it finances and leases aircraft to carriers. An order on this scale strengthens its ability to supply airline customers, but does not mean the 110 aircraft have already been delivered, assigned to operators or committed to immediate new routes. Airbus distinguishes the longer-range A330-900 from its single-aisle A320neo Family, which serves a different range of airline requirements.
For passengers, any future impact depends on the airline that receives a particular aircraft and how it configures the cabin. Seat pitch, travel classes, baggage and on-board service are not established by a lessor's order. An aircraft purchase announcement cannot by itself be used to infer when a particular airline will receive a new jet or whether a traveller's booking will change.
