Copenhagen Airport liquids: 100 ml containers, one clear 1-litre bag and what counts as a liquid

Editorial interpretation

Copenhagen Airport applies the familiar 100 ml rule at security. According to the airport’s guidance, no container of liquid in hand luggage may exceed 100 ml, and each passenger may carry one clear, resealable 1-litre bag, which must always be placed visibly in a tray at the security check, next to the hand luggage.

The definition of a liquid is wider than many travellers expect. The airport lists drinks and soup; mixed foods such as Nutella and jam; perfume and aftershave; toiletries such as shampoo and toothpaste; creams and oils including hand lotion and sunscreen; and the contents of pressurised containers such as deodorant, hairspray and shaving foam. Butter, cheese spreads, smoothies and canned food in liquid, such as tuna in oil, also go in the bag.

Solid foods are treated differently. Bread, sausage, cold cuts, hard cheeses, brie, camembert, fruit and biscuits are not covered by the liquid rules. Plastic bags are available at packing tables just before the security area, where passengers can also arrange baby food and electronics so that they are easy to take out.

The airport recommends arriving two hours before Schengen flights and three hours before non-Schengen flights, as security can be slower at busy times. Rules may differ at the airport of a return flight or connection, so check them there as well.
