Dublin Airport liquids: containers up to 2 litres can stay in your bag, but check your return airport
Editorial interpretation
Passengers departing from Dublin Airport no longer need to take liquids, gels or electronics out of their hand luggage at security in either terminal. The operator daa says there is no limit on the number of liquids and gels in carry-on bags, provided each container holds no more than two litres; larger containers are not allowed through security.
The change, announced in September 2025, followed the installation of around 30 new C3 scanners, which use CT-style 3D imaging, together with body scanners across Terminals 1 and 2. Bottled water, essential medication, special dietary liquids and baby food or milk are covered by the same two-litre container limit, and transfer passengers who are re-screened receive the same allowance.
Some steps have not changed. Belts, footwear above the ankle, jackets, hoodies and oversized jumpers or cardigans must still go in the tray, together with everything in your pockets, including keys, wallets and phones. Security opens at 02:30 in Terminal 1 and at 03:30 in Terminal 2, and the airport recommends arriving two hours before short-haul flights and three hours before long-haul flights.
The most important caveat concerns the journey home. Dublin Airport itself warns that security rules can vary between airports and that other UK and European airports are not as advanced, so passengers should check the liquids rules at the airport they will be returning from before packing.
