Flying into Brazil with goods to declare: how the e-DBV works and its new automatic registration

Editorial interpretation

Air travellers who have goods to declare on arrival in Brazil do so through the e-DBV, the Federal Revenue Service's electronic traveller's goods declaration, and since the afternoon of 27 July 2026 some of those declarations are registered automatically. In those cases, the Receita Federal says, the traveller can go straight through disembarkation without presenting themselves to customs for goods to declare.

Automatic registration applies to declarations that the service's risk-management criteria qualify; the rest remain subject to the usual customs controls. The Receita Federal stresses that travellers remain responsible for filing the e-DBV whenever they are subject to the goods declaration.

The declaration is prepared on the e-DBV portal, choosing a new declaration under 'Entering Brazil' or 'Leaving Brazil'. The traveller then gives the transport mode, the place of arrival or departure and whether they live in Brazil, and picks what to declare: traveller's goods, cash, goods for temporary admission (non-residents only) or goods for a company.

According to the Receita Federal's guide, goods to declare include items bought abroad that exceed the value or quantity allowance, as well as weapons, ammunition, medical products and medicines, animals and plants; medicines for personal use during the trip do not need declaring. After submission, the screen says whether the traveller is exempt from presenting baggage to customs, and a receipt is downloaded.

Keep the declaration number and receipt, and check the Receita Federal's traveller guide for the allowances in force before flying.
