Flying in or out of Colombia: how Check-Mig pre-registration and the Biomig gates work

Editorial interpretation

Migración Colombia asks travellers entering or leaving the country to complete Check-Mig, a free online pre-registration for nationals and foreigners, before they reach the migration officer. The agency says doing it in advance speeds up the interview at the migration control point.

According to Migración Colombia's frequently asked questions, Check-Mig can be completed from 72 hours up to one hour before the trip, and the information, including the health questions, must be complete and truthful.

At the main international airports the agency also runs Biomig, a biometric self-service system. In a June 2026 travel advisory it said Biomig works for entry or exit by Colombians over 12, while for foreigners it is only enabled when leaving the country, with no prior enrolment needed. Travellers with younger children must still go through the migration interview so an officer can check documents and permits.

The same advisory sets out the documents. Adults need a valid passport or travel document; Colombians also need any visa or permit required by their destination, and foreigners must be leaving within their authorised period of stay. Colombian and resident foreign minors need a valid passport, a birth certificate and a notarised exit permit from any parent not travelling with them. The agency recommends arriving at the airport at least three hours early.

Before flying, complete Check-Mig on Migración Colombia's official site and, if a child is travelling, check the exit permit well before the departure date.
