Helsinki Airport liquids: 100 ml containers for all, and a one-litre bag if you are changing planes

Editorial interpretation

Passengers flying from Helsinki Airport should pack liquids in containers of no more than 100 ml. Finavia, which operates the airport, says that since 1 September 2024 EU rules have limited containers to 100 ml at EU airports, Helsinki included, while departing passengers may carry up to two litres of liquids in total in their hand luggage.

The rules are stricter for those changing planes. Transfer passengers at Helsinki and at Finavia's regional airports must keep each package within 100 ml and place them all in a resealable, transparent plastic bag no larger than one litre.

Medicines, baby food and special dietary liquids are an exception in both cases: they can be carried in the amount needed for the journey, even in containers larger than 100 ml. Separately, hairspray containers larger than 500 ml are prohibited in both hand luggage and checked baggage.

For travellers, the distinction matters most on connecting itineraries, where a bag packed for a direct departure from Helsinki may not meet the transfer rules. Finavia's page was last updated in September 2026; check it again close to departure, along with the rules at any other airport where you will go through security again.
