At Madrid-Barajas Airport, T4 and its T4 Satellite building are linked by an automatic train known as the APM. Aena describes this separately from the shuttle bus serving other terminal areas.

A T4S flight assignment therefore matters: reaching T4 does not mean you are already near the satellite building’s gate. Follow the relevant signs.

Confirm the terminal and boarding area on airport screens. Connection time includes the route to the gate and applicable checks, not just the train journey.

The automated train connecting Terminal 4 with its T4S satellite operates within a particular part of Madrid-Barajas Airport. It should not be confused with buses linking other terminals and airport areas. Aena distinguishes these forms of transport because they serve different routes, and reaching a satellite departure gate can involve additional procedures.

The terminal number printed on a ticket or boarding pass is only the beginning. After arriving at T4, passengers should confirm whether the gate is in the main building or T4S and follow the appropriate signs. Total transfer time depends on the location, applicable checks and passenger numbers, not only the duration of the automated train ride. Check the airline's current connection instructions when travelling on more than one flight.
