Montevideo's Carrasco International Airport marks 80 years with a five-part video series

Carrasco International Airport in Montevideo is marking 80 years since its official inauguration with a series of five audiovisual episodes presented by Sebastián Beltrame, the airport announced on 17 October 2026.

According to the airport, the first landing at the site was made by Cesáreo L. Berisso on 19 September 1944, and the Aeropuerto Nacional de Carrasco was officially inaugurated on 10 October 1946. The current terminal was inaugurated in 2009.

The episodes revisit the airport's milestones, transformations and stories. In its announcement, the airport says it grew alongside commercial aviation and became a regional reference for its architecture, management, innovation and service quality. It adds that its history includes farewells and reunions, as well as visits by major figures from sport, culture and world history.

The anniversary series is aimed at the public rather than at changing how the terminal works. The announcement does not include any change to flights, terminal services or passenger procedures, so travellers using Carrasco should keep checking flight information with their airline and with the airport as usual.
