Quito airport recognised by the city for its contribution to air connectivity and tourism
Mariscal Sucre International Airport in Quito has received a recognition from the Municipality of Quito, through Quito Turismo, for its contribution to the city's tourism development, the airport said in an article published on 12 October 2026. The award was presented on 7 October at a ceremony in Puembo held as part of World Tourism Day.
The airport was honoured in the category covering investment, connectivity and tourist destination management. The ceremony recognised organisations in six categories for their contribution to the city's economic, social and tourism development. The airport credited the result to the joint work of Corporación Quiport and the municipal company EPMSA.
Ramón Miró, president and chief executive of Corporación Quiport, said the recognition motivates continued work on airport management and stressed that air connectivity is fundamental to tourism growth and to creating opportunities for Quito. The airport describes itself as the capital's main international air gateway, important for bringing visitors to the city and for supporting tourism, trade and services.
The recognition is a civic award and does not involve any change to flights, terminal services or passenger procedures at the airport. Travellers flying to or from Quito should continue to check flight details and any operational notices with their airline and the airport.
