Spain: unions register a general strike call for 11 November; impact on flights not yet set out
Spain's UGT union has registered at the Ministry of Labour the call for a general strike on 11 November, together with CCOO, CGT, CNT, Co.Bas, Intersindical, the actors' union Unión de Actores y Actrices, Solidaridad Obrera and the confederation of tenants' unions, according to a UGT announcement of 19 October 2026. UGT describes the action as a stoppage of production.
The union says the strike is meant to press for solutions on housing, including rent controls, protection for people facing eviction and measures against the concentration of homes in the hands of investment funds. It also cites the general agreement on collective bargaining with employers, which it says has been pending for more than a year, a minimum-wage rise of at least 7% for 2027, shorter working time, occupational health and safety, the defence of the public pension system and guarantees in the management of sick leave.
For air travellers, the open questions are whether staff at airports, in air navigation and at airlines take part, and which minimum services are set for air transport.
The UGT announcement gives no start or end times and does not mention air transport, airports or minimum services, so which flights could be affected is not established by it. Passengers with flights to, from or within Spain on 11 November should follow their airline's information in the days before travel and check the status of their flight before going to the airport.
Check the operator's latest conditions before booking or travelling.
