Stockholm Arlanda security: Terminal 5’s new checkpoint and Terminal 2 apply different liquid rules

Editorial interpretation

Passengers at Stockholm Arlanda may face two different sets of security rules depending on where they are screened. Swedavia says that at the new 5F security checkpoint in Terminal 5, liquids and electronic items can stay in hand baggage, and travellers may carry an unlimited number of containers of up to 100 ml without putting them in a one-litre bag.

In Terminal 2 the familiar routine still applies. Liquids must be taken out of hand baggage and presented separately, in containers of up to 100 ml placed in a single one-litre bag, and larger electronic items such as laptops, mobile phones and cameras must also be removed and placed in a tray. Swedavia notes that the 100 ml rule continues to apply at all its other security checkpoints, and that the technology at the new Terminal 5 control differs from that used elsewhere at the airport.

Some steps are the same everywhere. Outer clothing, blazers, headgear and metal items such as belts with large buckles go in a tray, and passengers cannot walk through security with loose items such as coins or keys, which should be packed in a bag or jacket pocket.

Swedavia advises passengers to follow the signs in the security queue for the rules at their checkpoint, and warns that the airport they fly back from may have other rules. Pack liquids so they can be taken out quickly if needed.
