Swedish airports grow international traffic in September while domestic travel stays flat, Swedavia says

Just under 3.2 million passengers travelled through Sweden's ten state-owned airports in September 2026, slightly more than two per cent up on a year earlier, according to traffic figures published by airport operator Swedavia on 6 October. International travel grew by three per cent, while domestic travel was largely unchanged, dipping just under one per cent.

Stockholm Arlanda, the country's largest airport, handled just under 2.3 million passengers, an increase of just under two per cent. Its international traffic rose just over three per cent, while domestic traffic fell just under five per cent. At Göteborg Landvetter, passenger numbers were essentially unchanged at just over 530,000, with international travel slightly up and domestic travel down just under eight per cent. Visby recorded the strongest growth of the network, followed by Ronneby, Åre Östersund and Malmö.

Swedavia says domestic supply fell faster than demand, which pushed up load factors, and that Gothenburg is now the only major domestic market without competition. Stockholm Bromma handled just over 14,600 passengers, about seven per cent of its 2019 level.

The operator also flags rising uncertainty for the winter season because of higher oil prices and costs, without setting out what that could mean for specific routes. Travellers planning domestic trips in Sweden this winter should check current schedules with their airline, since Swedavia reports that domestic supply has been shrinking.
