Vienna Airport security: liquids in containers up to 2,000 ml and electronics can stay in your cabin bag
Editorial interpretation
Departing passengers at Vienna Airport can leave liquids and electrical or electronic devices inside their cabin bag at the security check. The airport’s security page says liquids in containers of up to 2,000 ml may remain in the bag, a much larger limit than the 100 ml containers many travellers still expect.
That does not mean anything goes. Vienna Airport stresses that all liquids are screened, and that large quantities may need additional checks and can cause delays. Cabin bags, liquids, electronic devices and other items such as prams are checked by X-ray.
The airport also sets out what passengers should do before reaching the scanner. Personal items still in pockets, such as keys or a wallet, should go into the cabin bag, while outer clothing is placed in the tray under the bag. Thermos flasks must be presented empty and can be refilled afterwards, and staff should be told about fragile items such as musical instruments or analogue film.
The page describes the rules at Vienna’s own checkpoints; it does not set out arrangements for connecting passengers or for other airports. Travellers on a return journey or with a connection elsewhere should check the security rules at each departure airport, and should pack liquids so they can be taken out quickly if another checkpoint requires it.
