US Preclearance at Dublin Airport: Terminal 2, three hours ahead and no US customs on landing
Editorial interpretation
Passengers on most direct flights from Dublin to the United States go through all US immigration, customs and agriculture inspections before boarding, at a Preclearance facility on the ground floor of Terminal 2, beyond security, operated by US personnel, according to Dublin Airport. On a precleared direct flight, travellers will not have to go through customs when they land in the US.
Not every US flight offers Preclearance, so the airport tells passengers to check with their airline. US flights depart from Terminal 2, and the airport advises arriving three hours before a long-haul flight, with extra time for checked bags or groups. Peak security times in Terminal 2 are from 05:00 to 12:00 for morning and early-afternoon flights. Connecting passengers can use Preclearance in Dublin when their connection is to the US; anyone flying to a non-US airport will not use it.
Global Entry members can use the self-service kiosks at Preclearance. US and Canadian citizens, US lawful permanent residents and Visa Waiver Program travellers with a valid passport can also use Mobile Passport Control for up to 12 family members, submitting their documents only once they have arrived at their selected CBP location. They still queue and see a CBP officer, but the process is quicker.
After Preclearance there are a limited number of shops and a lounge open to all US-bound departing passengers. Before you fly, confirm with your airline that your flight is precleared and check that your US travel authorisation or visa is in order, because the airport page does not cover those requirements.
