Rail works affect access to Düsseldorf Airport
Rail engineering works around Duisburg and Essen are affecting train access to Düsseldorf Airport in Germany. The airport's official notice covers 21:00 on 4 September to 21:00 on 30 October 2026, local time. The second phase began on 9 October and continues until 30 October.
The airport reports diversions, cancellations and replacement transport on multiple rail lines. Its second-phase list includes RE 1, RE 2, RE 3, RE 5, RE 6, RE 11, RE 19, RE 42, RE 44, RB 32, RB 33, RB 35 and S1. The impact varies by particular service and route; knowing the line number alone is not enough to confirm a connection.
Before leaving, check the departure station, specific service and updated departure time on the channels recommended by the airport: Deutsche Bahn, zuginfo.nrw and VRR. If replacement transport operates, check where it departs and allow sufficient time to reach the terminal.
The airport also warns that more passengers may choose to travel by car. This can increase demand for airport parking, so it recommends checking current occupancy and booking ahead where appropriate. Live free-space figures can change and should not be treated as a guarantee of later availability.
These restrictions concern rail access, not the airport's closure or necessarily a cancelled flight. If the train journey is unsuitable, a road transfer or another transport option may be worth considering, subject to current operating advice and enough extra time for airport security and boarding.
The announced dates have passed. Check the operator’s current notice before travelling.
