Maastricht more than halves delays attributable to its control centre

Maastricht Upper Area Control Centre handled 842,259 flights between May and September 2026. EUROCONTROL says 98.4% crossed its airspace without a delay attributable to the centre, while total attributable delay fell by more than half compared with summer 2025.

The result covers upper airspace over Belgium, the Netherlands, Luxembourg and north-west Germany. It does not mean every one of those flights arrived at its destination on time.

Maastricht Upper Area Control Centre manages upper-airspace traffic across parts of Belgium, the Netherlands, Luxembourg and north-western Germany. EUROCONTROL's measure refers to delays attributable to that particular centre, not every delay encountered by flights in the region. An aircraft can cross the area without a Maastricht-attributable delay and still arrive late because of weather or operational issues elsewhere.

The comparison with the previous summer offers context about air-traffic management performance. It does not show that every airline improved punctuality or that winter will deliver the same results. For an individual traveller, the relevant information remains the flight's actual status and the carrier's notices, not an aggregate figure drawn from thousands of movements.
