Monterrey Airport prepares new domestic baggage hall with bag tracking as Terminal A expansion advances

Grupo Aeroportuario Centro Norte (OMA) is preparing to open a new baggage claim hall for domestic flights at Monterrey International Airport, the operator said on 26 October 2026. The hall, next to Terminal A, is part of a multi-year expansion of the airport, which OMA runs with VINCI Airports. No opening date has been announced.

The new hall covers 4,150 square metres and has five high-speed carousels, each able to handle between 2,500 and 3,000 bags per hour, so it can serve up to 10 flights in the same hour. OMA says it will also introduce a "First Last Baggage" system, which identifies and tracks every bag on each flight in order to spot delays, shorten waiting times and speed up claims for lost luggage. The operator describes it as a first in Mexico.

A new walkway will link the hall to the existing Terminal A, and a corridor with two 35-metre moving walkways, escalators and lifts will lead to Finger 1. OMA says this will reduce the number of passengers boarding and leaving aircraft on foot across the apron. A solar plant is under construction, and the plan aims to raise annual capacity from 15 million to 18 million passengers.

The release does not say when the hall or the walkways will enter service, and the baggage tracking system's launch date is not given. Travellers flying through Monterrey should follow airport and airline information for any changes to arrival procedures.
