Santo Domingo's Las Américas airport new terminal moves to foundations, with delivery targeted for 2028

Construction of a new passenger terminal at Las Américas International Airport in Santo Domingo has moved on to the foundations and structure of the building, the airport operator AERODOM said on 15 October 2026. The company, a VINCI Airports subsidiary, says work began in 2025 and that delivery is targeted for 2028.

Geotechnical treatment of the site is complete. The new terminal will cover more than 40,000 square metres, add capacity for up to 4 million passengers a year and operate independently, in parallel with the existing terminal. The project also includes new access roads, short- and long-term parking, a new apron and a new taxiway connecting to the runway. AERODOM says more than 500 workers are on site, with VINCI Construction Grands Projets and VINCI Energies as main contractors and several Dominican subcontractors.

The operator says the terminal will have an energy centre with decarbonised air conditioning, a new solar plant and a rehabilitated wastewater treatment plant. Other works at the airport include a major rehabilitation of runway 17-35 and a new baggage handling system for the existing terminal. AERODOM's chief executive, Cyril Girot, said all teams were deployed and working to keep to the schedule.

The release gives no overall completion percentage and does not describe any effect on passengers while the works continue. Travellers using Las Américas should follow the airport's own signage and check-in guidance on the day of travel.
