Singapore Airlines agrees to buy waste-carbon SAF from Aether's Singapore plant from 2028
Singapore Airlines (SIA) has signed a binding agreement to buy up to 4,800 tonnes of sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) over three years from Aether Fuels' first commercial production facility in Singapore, with deliveries starting in 2028, the airline announced on 28 October 2026.
The fuel will come from Project Beacon, which Aether is developing at Aster's refining complex on Pulau Bukom. SIA says it is the first airline to buy SAF from the facility, and that this is its first purchase of SAF made with technology that converts waste carbon feedstocks. Project Beacon will use biomethane and industrial waste gases processed with Aether's Aurora technology, which builds on the Fischer-Tropsch process; the companies present it as an alternative to the HEFA pathway, which relies on more constrained lipid-based feedstocks. The fuel will be certified under CORSIA.
Lee Wen Fen, SIA's chief sustainability officer, said securing future SAF supplies supports the airline's goal of net zero carbon emissions by 2050. Aether co-founder and chief executive Conor Madigan called the agreement a strong signal of committed demand from a leading global airline. Aether intends to start up its first large-scale commercial plant by 2031, with at least ten times Beacon's capacity.
The announcement does not say what share of SIA's fuel needs the volume represents or on which flights the fuel will be used. No deliveries are planned before 2028.
