Lufthansa Group renames its Green Fare as Impact Fare, citing new rules on environmental communication
The Lufthansa Group has renamed its Green Fare as the Impact Fare, the group announced on 23 October 2026. It says it is continuing the established offer under a new name and that the change reflects new regulatory requirements for environmental communication. The fare can be booked with Lufthansa Group airlines in all travel classes.
According to the release, the group deploys an additional amount of sustainable aviation fuel within six months of departure for passengers on the fare. For flights within Europe, this is based on 20 percent of the estimated flight-related CO₂ emissions, and contributions to climate protection projects outside the company's value chain are based on the remaining 80 percent; those projects aim to avoid or remove CO₂. For intercontinental routes the release gives a split of 10 to 90 percent. Passengers also receive additional miles and points and, depending on booking class and destination, more flexible or fee-free rebooking options.
The Green Fare was introduced in 2023 and, according to the group, more than five million passengers have booked it so far. The rename matters to travellers who compare fares by their environmental description, because the product keeps its contents while dropping the word "green".
The release does not give an effective date for the new name or name the specific regulation behind it. Travellers considering the fare should check its conditions for their route and class at the time of booking.
