Discover Airlines plans first A350 for June 2027 and takes over Frankfurt–San José with a Belize link

Discover Airlines expects its first Airbus A350-900 to join the fleet in June 2027 and plans to take over the Frankfurt–San José route in Costa Rica from Lufthansa from 14 December 2027, the airline announced on 29 October 2026.

Before entering long-haul service, the A350 will fly a high-frequency short-haul route for training. Its first long-haul route from Frankfurt will be either to Calgary or to Orlando, with several flights a week; the airline has not yet said which. On the San José route Discover plans six weekly flights, two of them operated as triangular services that also serve Belize City, a new destination for the airline.

The third and fourth A350s are scheduled for summer 2028. Discover currently operates 15 Airbus A330-300s after retiring its last A330-200, expects its long-haul fleet to reach 20 aircraft by mid-2028, and plans nine more A350-900s to gradually replace the A330-300s. One A330-300 is due to be fitted next year with the airline's new long-haul product, Ocean Blue.

The announcement leaves the first A350 long-haul route undecided and gives no timetables, and it does not name the short-haul route to be used for training. Passengers planning to fly between Frankfurt and San José from December 2027 should check which airline will operate their flight.
